Starlab workshop, 29th of February, 2008

Metis Beach School, Metis-sur-Mer, QC

Brett Mitchell, principal

'' The visit was unanimously agreed as a great experience for both the staff and students of our schools. The students thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere created by the dome and the visuals on display. The running commentary provided by the animator help accentuate the experience for everyone as well. I have already a staff member talking about how she will be using some of the presentation as part of her future lessons.

Given the grade levels being presented to, from Kindergarten to Secondary 5, the material was very appropriate and the animator was able to capture each student's attention with his humour, charm and knowledge of the subject matter, even handling several students who, at one point were overly excited, with efficiency.

The planetarium's mobile nature and size made a visit that would normally be, for a school as remote and small as ours, inaccessible, and it was provided at a reasonable cost that makes it possible for us to host such an activity.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience for other schools.''

Rawdon Elementary & Middle School Louise A.McLaughlin, teacher's representative

Our school was treated to a wonderful experience in the spring of 2007– STARLAB made a visit.  This was a new experience for our students; entering the portable planetarium was an exciting treat for everyone.  The animator deftly adapted his presentation to our students’ ages – 5 to 14!  His bilingual presentation enriched the information offered, and his ease between French and English was a marvelous example for our students.  The content of the presentation was pedagogically solid and we all learned something new! Teachers, parents and students all came out of the yellow dome with one word on their lips – WOW! We look forward to inviting STARLAB back to our school next year.
